Join us for the next in our ongoing webinar series presented by IBM Systems Magazine, featuring John Baker, z Performance Speciazlist, and Selby Shanly, Principal Developer (ThruPut Manager Automation) presenting “How busy is too busy? Automating your system for maximum throughput.”
Abstract: What is utilization anyway and why should we care? Intuitively we know it’s a measure of how “busy” our system is and we know that affects how fast things run. We probably know that we don’t want utilization to be too high but unlimited capacity is not free either. But what exactly is “too high”; 80%, 90%, 99%? And what is an accurate measurement? Most any monitor will provide a basic CPU utilization value for a given point in time but what is actually being measured; and how current is the measurement? There are many layers of virtualization within your system all with their own levels of utilization. Demand can also change quickly and knowing how much work can optimally be run at any point in time is no trivial task.
Take a walk with John and Selby as we explore the various aspects of utilization and get to the core of ThruPut Manager automation—Service Level Manager (SLM). Learn how SLM measures and manages utilization to ensure your system – no matter how large or small – delivers consistent throughput under any conditions. Let’s get busy – but not too busy!
